The original pattern for this pillow used fabric strips, 2.5 inches wide and about 22 inches long. When I saw the pattern I realized that the ties I had that belonged to my father and grandfather would work great and give me a unique gift for each of my daughters. I wanted a small pillow, about 14 inches square. The ties were taken apart and washed. I then cut them into strips 15 x 2.5 inches. I used muslin for the foundation and black cotton fabric for the backing. From there I followed Vanessa Christenson’s instructions. Now each of my daughters has a remembrance of their grandfather and great grandfather. Now it’s time to make one for myself!
